What are OSB boards?
Oriented Strand Board, also known as OSB, is a plating material that consists of various layers of wood chips which are bonded together with binding material such as glue to form a board. These boards consist of directional wood chips, which means that the chips on the outer layer are directed towards the length of the panel. On the inner side of the plate, the wood chips can’t be directed in the length of the sheet. Because of the crosswise construction a sturdy board is formed which also can be used on both sides. So OSB is an exterior bonded board that is applicable for a wide range of constructive, industrial or decorative means. Thanks to our designs, the constructive and industrial part can now also be mixed with decorative items.
How are OSB boards protected against wear, scratches and UV damage?
We use a UV-hardening protective layer with extremely high scratch resistance. This coating has been developed with the aim to significantly improve the scratch resistance of pre-painted parquet. The resistance against scratches and abrasion caused by dirt particles and sand is, compared to conventional varnish, much higher.
Our coating doesn’t show any effects of abrasions on the surface which makes it perfect for daily usage and needs. Next to having an excellent scratch resistance, it also has a high amount of transparency making it ideal for our designs. This protective layer also provides for UV-protection of the design.
Test reports and certificates can be requested through our contact page.
Are Chipps OSB boards moisture-resistant?
At the moment we’re working with OSB3Sterling from Norbord. This board falls under category usage class 2, humid conditions. This means that the panel is more resistant against humidity than the OSB1 or 2. The boards contain over a certain amount of moisture which is in accordance with a climate that has 85% moisture during several weeks of the year.
How do I maintain the OSB panels?
OSB boards can be cleaned both dry and wet.
1. Dry cleaning:
The best way to remove loose, rough dirt (e.g., dust and sand particles) is to frequently use a soft broom or vacuum cleaner.
2. Wet cleaning
Are the edges waterproof?
The edges are varnished alongside with the varnish line. The top edges are waterproof, the sides and tongue are not, but this is also the case with parquet or other wooden floors.
